Beach Volleyball Tournament in Playa del Carmen, Mexico
The events along the Riviera Maya always become in something very interesting, even more if they are organized on the marvelous beaches of Playa del Carmen!
The fun started On Saturday, 29th of March, (next to the ferry Playa del Carmen/Cozumel) where there was the celebration of the first Beach Volleyball tournament in Playa del Carmen!
With the participation of athletes of all the levels and from all the parts of the World the beach tournament results a success!
With a spectacular cruise floating on the Caribbean turquoise waters of Playa del Carmen as background, spiking, passing, blocking, setting, actions, jumps, music, joy and laughters entertained all the spectators and the athletes of “Playa”.
Talented athletes played under puffy white cotton-ball clouds floating across a blue sky!
Thanks to excellent promoters who love Playa del Carmen and most of all the sports, the first beach volley tournament was punctually been able to go through and to be a triumph!
In the oldest part of the Fifth Avenue in Playa del Carmen dominated by the white and typical colonial church, a nice plaza opens the view to the stunning Caribbean beach, where the soft, porous coral sand stay always cool and never get hot even at noon (so, ideal for a beach sport)!
This part of Playa del Carmen is the meeting point of street artists, kind and smiling Mayan woman dressed with huipils (traditional yucatecan dress) that sell juicy and fresh fruits, tamales and corns; pitchmen call tourists to sell their precious silver jewelry, souvenirs and much more. Also, the sides of the Plaza are dotted by great international and Mexican restaurants offering amazing culinary experiences and, of course, a great view!
In sum, the promoters couldn’t choose a better place to organize this event in Playa del Carmen!
During the tournament the spectators remained bewitched and fascinated from the athleticism and agility needed to play this sport!
Beach Volley Ball is much different than court volley ball and not just the number of players on the court but the way in which it is played and the different muscles and skills needed to play it, even more on the sand and under the Caribbean sun … it was something unbelievable.
Men and women were competing almost continuously on Saturday in order to get to their finals on late afternoon. Match after match the heroes of this competition were awarded with tours along the Riviera Maya and a great admiration from the public.
So, adrenaline, emotions, catches, speed and astuteness mixed and flowed into cheering and general excitement!
The games were competitive, fought, but corrects and loyal.
Being Playa del Carmen a “new town” the tournament was created by “Volleyball de Playa” (a new sporting organization) with the specific purpose to providing an opportunity to divulge and spread this sport among players of all age! These marvelous people give part of their daily time teaching this not easy sport to men, women and kids over 12 years old For Free!
Victor, Edu, Rula, Giovanni and Fernando are spearheading the development of the “Volleyball de Playa” project with all the patience that it needs!!
These boys are also worried about the environmental impact of a similar event on the beach. They provide garbage cans for plastics, aluminums.. They thought, with all the right, that maybe the tournament was a good situation to talk about recycling and other important ecological information, and it was! After the event not even a plastic bottle was on the beach!
Beach volleyball is a lifestyle; if you play this game you already know that your participation and love for the game is a part of your life and the way you live it.
