These are days of remembrance, happiness and celebration, Los Dias de los Muertos is not a sad time, but instead a time of remembering and rejoicing..

Mexico Dia de los Muertos (the Mexican Halloween) calls for happy all day picnics beside the graves of dead relatives. At home, people assemble little altars called ofrendas, stocked with the departed loved ones favourite foods and drinks, their photos, and other memories, as well as candles and pungent marigolds, a flower long associated with death.

The Mexicans welcome the spirits of their families with the delicious smell of food in the air, tasty candies decorated like skulls, and lighted candles to guide them home again. Skeletons and skulls are found everywhere. Chocolate skulls, marzipan coffins, and white chocolate skeletons. Special loaves of bread are baked, called "Pan de los Muertos".

Festivities take place in cities and villages throughout Mexico, though each location may have different customs and ways of honoring their dead.
