Chiapas promises never ending adventure. Planety of things to do and see, Chiapas fascinates the tourism of the whole world! Why?

Well, you can travel by boat down the Grijalva River, through nearly 305-meter (1000-foot) walls of the magnificent Sumidero Canyon, or admire the waterfalls of Aguas Azul Chiapas, visit the Montebello Lakes, travel deep into the jungle at Yaxchilan where toucans, howler monkeys and parrots abound and explore El Triunfo Reserve, one of the many Chiapas sightseeing spots and the domain of the Quetzal!

Tuxtla Gutierrez Chiapas

Tuxtla Gutierrez is the capital of Chiapas.

It is one Chiapas main sightseeing spots. Tuxtla Gutierrez has grown and developed throughout its history. It has avoided anything that might hinder its vigor and energy. The modern construction Tuxtla Gutierrez is proof of this. It speaks of an unassuming yet energetic population. In any case, Tuxtla Gutierrez keeps its charm due to the special magic of the flavor of Chiapas. As in most Mexican cities, Tuxtla Gutierrez has a central square (zocalo) in the heart of the city.

San Cristobal de las Casas

San Cristobal de las Casas was founded in 1528. It was named after its first bishop, Bartolom de la Casas. Bartolom was a passionate supporter of the local natives’ rights. This town is the home of the Santo Domingo Church. This church is an intricate baroque building. It now houses a wonderful museum of Mayan culture.

Today, San Cristobal is a classic Spanish Colonial town. It has an active and celebrated indigenous heart. San Cristobel is a city of:

  • Cobblestone lanes
  • Red tile roofs
  • Lavish churches
  • Small plazas filled with trees

There are many traditional indigenous villages that surround San Cristobal. In these villages, ten or more different dialects are spoken.

San Cristobal is a sensible base from which to explore Chiapas. Visitors can take in the numerous, magnificent and intimate seldom-visited wonders of Chiapas state. They can also visit the colonial city itself.

Sumidero Canyon

The Sumidero Canyon in Chiapas, Mexico has many depths and drops. They are the prefect places to inspire the imagination and recharge the spirit. The rock formations have mystical figures. They are impressive, yet graceful and delicate. The Grijalva River winds through the Canyon. It continues on to the Gulf of Mexico.

The Sumidero Canyon in Chiapas has been a National Park since 1982. It is filled with:

  • Spider monkeys
  • Sea birds

Palenque

Palenqueis one of the great Mayan metropolises that were constructed in the wooded areas of Chiapas. The site at Palenque reflects the Mayans’:

  • Perfection of the sculptures

Among its well-preserved structures, visitors can see El Palacio. It features an intricate structure that includes:

  • Patios
  • Corridors
  • Sculptures
  • Towers

The most refined architecture in the entire El Palacio complex is The Temple of Inscriptions. In the Temple, a gigantic mausoleum was discovered underground in 1949. It contained the King Pacal's Tomb, and was surrounded by offerings and jade decorations. These can now be viewed at the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico City. Other buildings of outstanding splendor include:

  • The Temple of Skulls
  • The Temple of the Sun
  • The Fourteenth Temple

All theses relics remind visitors of the Mayan wisdom and talent. The Mayans were one of the most interesting yet mysterious peoples of all time.

Agua Azul Cascades

The Agua Azul Cascades in Chiapas, Mexico are remarkable waterfalls. They are formed by the Agua Azul River which ends at the Shumulha River. This site is one of the most stunning and unforgettable in Mexico, because of:

  • The indigo blue color of the water
  • The green vegetation
  • The constant breeze
  • The endless sound of the water
